Goals
 The Pathways to Higher Education program at St. Xavier’s College provided access to a high quality education to disadvantaged students. To achieve this mission, the Pathways program at St. Xavier’s College focused on improving or developing:

  • Tutoring, counseling and career guidance programs
  • Sensitivity training for faculty
  • English communications and computer skills
  • Integration of disadvantaged students into the mainstream student community

Target Population
 The Pathways program at St. Xavier’s College reached out to minority students and those from marginalized castes.


Outcomes
 Between 2002-2009, the Pathways program:

  • Helped ensure steady retention figures of disadvantaged students
  • Improved teaching skills of 22 faculty members through several trainings including a three-day workshop designed to enhance facilitation skills
  • Raised awareness of the various tribal cultures represented at the University by sending ten faculty members to visit the homes of students from tribal regions
  • Enhanced English language and computer skills and also employability of students through a 25-day course attended by 20 students over three summers
