Goals
The Pathways program at Shaanxi Institute of Technology aims to enhance low-income students’ social skills. To achieve this mission, the university’s Pathways program is focused on improving or developing:

  • Support services for disadvantaged students, such as counseling and mentoring
  • Student associations to improve students’ confidence
  • An information system to assess students’ financial status and enable better and more efficient financial aid, loans, and job opportunities to students in need

Target Population
Female, low-income, and ethnic students, such as the Tibetans, Mongolians, Huis, Tus, and more.

Outcomes
The Institute’s Pathways program has:

  • Relocated its English language resources into one area to improve its services and build students’ English skills
  • Developed three student associations
  • Generated tremendous support from the Institute’s community, which provides additional facilities and human resources to ease and enhance the program’s implementation
  • Developed an effective information management system to monitor students’ financial situation and respond to their needs more efficiently
