Goals
Ningxia University’s Pathways program is focused on improving or developing:
- Support services for low-income and ethnic minority students, such as counseling, mentoring and tutoring
- Remedial and supplemental courses for Pathways students
- A new curriculum and more inclusive, effective teaching methods
- Students’ computer skills and access to computers
Target Population
Low-income and ethnic students, including Huis (Chinese Muslims), Mongols, Tujias and Miaos.
Outcomes
Through the Pathways program, Ningxia University has:
- Expanded the number and range of available course subjects, such as English and basic computer skills. For example, many Pathways students have never seen or used a computer before attending the university, making basic computer training an essential course.
- Introduced a new teaching methodology and curriculum that is more responsive to the needs of Pathways students.
- Developed the Dormitory Network Center, which houses 30 computers and recruits and trains students to manage the computer center while assisting other students. To date, more than 1,119 students have received computer training and many have participated in the center’s annual Computer Application Skill Competition.
