Goals
The Pathways program at Ningxia Medical Institute aims to improve the economic and social opportunities of low-income and ethnic students, helping them to embark on successful career paths.  To achieve this mission, the University’s Pathways program is focused on improving or developing:

  • Support services and resources for traditionally marginalized students, such as counseling and mentoring
  • Entrepreneurship education to enhance students’ professional skills and ability to start their own
  • A social support network

Target Population
Low-income students in rural areas and ethnic minority students, such as Huis (Chinese Muslim), Koreans, Yaos, Hanis and Kazakhs

Outcomes
The Pathways program at Ningxia Medical Institute has:

 

  • Created student social support networks, like the community service teams that provide medical services for local residents, to facilitate students’ personal growth and college success
  • Improved professional opportunities for Pathways students by developing a career and entrepreneurship manual and course series, launching a career website with job information, providing career counseling, and conducting professional training sessions for approximately 800 students
